The SHIMANO 105 Di2 ST-R7170 is a 2x12-speed electronic dual-control lever designed for hydraulic disc brake road bikes. It brings premium electronic shifting down to Shimano's workhorse 105 tier, drawing heavy ergonomic inspiration from the top-tier Dura-Ace and Ultegra series.

  • Wireless Shifting: Communication with the derailleurs is fully wireless, allowing for a completely clean and minimalist cockpit setup.
  • Power Source: Unlike the wired capabilities of Ultegra and Dura-Ace, the ST-R7170 operates exclusively via wireless power. Each lever uses two CR1632 coin-cell batteries, which boast an exceptional lifespan of roughly 3.5 to 4 years. 
  • Ergonomics: It features an upgraded hood shape with a raised head and an elongated body, providing better hand support, grip security, and comfort across diverse riding positions. 
  • Braking Integration: Designed for hydraulic mineral oil setups, it features reach adjustment and free-stroke adjustment. It is paired natively with the SHIMANO BR-R7170 brake caliper.
  • Customization: Fully compatible with the Shimano E-Tube Project App, allowing you to remap button functions, update firmware, and change shifting modes (like Semi- or Full Synchro-Shift).
Notable Omissions (Compared to Ultegra/Dura-Ace)
To keep the price point accessible, Shimano removed a few premium components from the 105 version:
  • No Top Hood Buttons: It lacks the hidden "third" auxiliary buttons on top of the hoods often used to control bike computers.
  • No Satellite Ports: There are no expansion ports to plug in sprint or climbing shifters.
  • No Wired Shift Option: The single SD300 E-Tube port inside is strictly for diagnostics/firmware updates; it cannot run a backup wired connection to the main internal bike battery.
