Seatpost BASIC

The seatpost does the seemingly simple job of connecting the saddle to the bike’s frame. It also provides a lot of adjustability, enabling for the setting of saddle height, its forward and aft positioning, and its angle.

A seatpost is made up of a shaft, which is hollow and, for a standard seatpost, has a round cross-section, though the latest road bikes often have non-round posts.

At its top is a saddle clamp, which attaches to the saddle to hold it in place.

At the bottom, the shaft inserts into the top of the bike’s seat tube and is held in place by a seatpost clamp.
